Every 2 months

Homes with pets, allergies or asthma, smokers, or lots of dust or construction nearby.

Most homes. A good place to start if you're not sure.

Vacation homes, rarely used spaces, or one person living alone with no pets.

Tip: Check your filter once a month at first. If it looks gray and clogged before it's due, pick a shorter schedule. This guide is for 1-inch filters. If your system's manufacturer recommends something different, go with theirs. You can change your schedule anytime.

Our Story

I'm Chad, a disabled veteran who served in the Kentucky Army National Guard from 2010 to 2017, and the founder of The Freedom Filter.

After the military, I found my next mission in HVAC. Today I'm a service manager in Cincinnati, and every week I see the same thing: furnaces and AC units working too hard, utility bills creeping up, and air that isn't as clean as it should be, all because of a filter nobody remembered to change.

It's the easiest maintenance in the house, and the one everyone forgets. So I built a fix. The Freedom Filter sends the right filter to your door on your schedule, so you never have to think about it. Your system runs better, your air is cleaner, and that's one less thing on your list.

Frequently asked questions

When will my first filters ship?

We're taking pre-orders now. First deliveries ship December 1, 2026. After that, your filters ship on the schedule you choose (every 2, 3, or 6 months). You're charged today for your first delivery, and not again on December 1. Your next charge is one schedule-length after December 1: February 1, 2027 (every 2 months), March 1, 2027 (every 3 months), or June 1, 2027 (every 6 months).

Can I send filters to someone else, like my parents or a rental?

Yes. At checkout, enter their address as the shipping address. Your billing address can be different: just uncheck "Billing info is same as shipping" and enter your own. For more than one home, like several rentals, set up one subscription per address.

Do you donate to veterans?

Yes. $1 from every box is donated to DAV (Disabled American Veterans). You can also add an optional $1 or $2 per delivery when you build your plan. It shows as a separate line on your receipt, and we pass it on to DAV. To change or remove your add-on later, email us at chad.trutschel91@gmail.com.

How do I find my filter size?

Look at the cardboard edge of the filter currently in your system. You'll see three numbers like 16×25×1 (width × height × depth in inches). Pick that size in the plan builder, or enter it as a custom size.

How often should I change my filter?

For 1-inch filters, a simple guide:

  • Every 2 months: homes with pets, allergies or asthma, smokers, or lots of dust or construction nearby.
  • Every 3 months: most homes. This is our recommended starting point.
  • Every 6 months: vacation homes, rarely used spaces, or one person living alone with no pets.

Which MERV rating should I choose?

MERV 8 is a good everyday choice. MERV 11 catches more pet dander and fine dust. MERV 13 offers the finest filtration and is popular for allergies, but some older systems aren't designed for it, so check your system's manual first.

Can I skip a delivery, change my plan, or cancel?

Yes. There's no contract or commitment. Cancel, update your card, or change your shipping address anytime from Manage my subscription. To skip a delivery or change your filter size, just email us at chad.trutschel91@gmail.com and we'll take care of it before your next shipment.

What if my home has more than one filter?

Choose a bigger pack. For two same-size filters changed every 3 months, a 4-pack every 6 months covers both. Support for multiple different sizes in one plan is planned. placeholder
